Hope Center Addiction Treatment Services

The Philosophy of Hope Center Addiction Treatment Services is to assist addicted men to achieve a spiritually based recovery. Recovery is defined as: A process beginning with renewal of the mind (changing old thoughts), restoration of the spirit (addressing addictive behaviors), and reconciliation with a Higher Power (establishing and implementing spirituality into our daily living).

We specialize in recovery from drug and alcohol addictions as well as problem gambling.

The Erie City Mission's Hope Center Addiction Treatment Services, is fully licensed and offers an intensive residential program designed to assist chemically dependent men who require time and structure to develop the skills and means essential to maintain recovery.

Two intensive programs are available: a 14-day Relapse Prevention Track and a full 28-day Residential Treatment Program. Length of stay is from 7 to 28 days depending on the specific and individual needs of the client. Eligible are adult males 18 and over, meeting the diagnostic criteria for substance/alcohol use disorders as defined in the current DSM IV.

Clients with a Dual Diagnosis are accepted provided they are stable and taking medications as prescribed.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling sessions are mandatory at a minimum of once per week. However, the counselor may include more sessions based on client needs. The 14-Day Relapse Prevention Track offers individual counseling on a daily basis.

Group Therapy

Group sessions are held 7 days per week. Due to our small census, groups consist of 4-8 members. The smaller size of the groups will promote an enriched environment of closeness, a higher trust level and encourage more risk taking. It also allows for peer input. Group topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Addiction Education / Relapse Prevention
  • Dual Diagnosis Education/Support
  • Stress Reduction
  • Anger Management
  • Family Dynamics
  • HIV/AIDS/STD Education
  • Peer and Share Groups
  • Daily AA & NA Meetings

Dual Diagnosis Education

Using structured, didactic group sessions, clients are educated as to the interaction between chemical dependency and mental disorders. It is estimated that between 40% and 70% of all chemically
dependent clients also suffer from a mental illness. Topics covered include but are not limited to the following:

  • Understanding Dual Disorders
  • Setting Foundations for Recovery
  • Developing a Recovery Plan
  • Building Emotional Strength
  • Changing the Self: A Holistic Approach
  • Making Lifestyle Changes
  • Preventing Relapse
